Engine mechanics

A continuous read for alts, ETH and macro

We added a new layer to the engine: continuous regime reads for altcoins, Ether positioning and macro. They report the state of each of those areas week to week, so the record now carries a steady read between the big turns, not only at them. Here is what they do and why they make the picture more complete.

The turns, and everything in between

Much of Orion's alt, positioning and macro logic is tuned to speak at the big moments: the cycle low, the cycle high, the rare setup where several conditions line up at once. Those are the loud, high-value calls, and they stay exactly as they are. What they do not cover is the long middle of a cycle, when the market is rotating, drifting and coiling, which is often precisely when a reader wants to know where we are.

The regime layer fills that middle. During a rotation that carried several alts up 50% to 250%, the loud calls did their job at the edges; the new layer now narrates the whole arc in between, so the state is on record continuously rather than only at the endpoints.

How the regime reads work

Each regime read runs on the same schedule as the rest of the engine and logs a graded state every week, or the moment that state changes:

  • Altcoin cycle regime. Blends where Ether sits against Bitcoin, a basket of quality alts versus their own history, market breadth, and Ether's momentum across timeframes into a single rotation reading. It maps the whole arc: accumulation, early rotation, mid-cycle, mature, and distribution.
  • Positioning regime (BTC and ETH). Logs the crowd's long/short balance every week, so the leverage lens carries a steady series for each asset instead of only the spikes.
  • Macro liquidity regime. Combines the dollar, the yield curve, Fed reverse-repo, equity risk appetite and money-supply growth into one risk-on, mixed or risk-off backdrop.

One rule keeps the output clean: log on a weekly heartbeat, or the instant the state flips, and never more often than that. The result is a readable time series, where the quiet weeks are on record as quiet and the turns stand out because there is a continuous baseline to see them against.

Why it matters

A continuous read gives every faster reading a backdrop. When the engine does lean, you can see it against a steady baseline rather than out of nowhere, and the whole rotation ends up on record, not just its endpoints.

Conditions, still not calls

A regime read describes where things sit; it does not tell you to act. Only clear extremes carry a bullish or bearish lean, and the broad middle logs as a neutral condition. That restraint is the point, and it is the same discipline behind how we read leverage: describe the state, and let the market confirm it.

What it adds for a reader

The alt, Ether and macro views now carry a continuous, plain read of the conditions, most of it neutral and some of it leaning, logged week to week. You can watch it build on the analytics page as each reading clears its embargo, and see every one scored on the track record.
